The establishment of TGNP was the result of a series of activities in preparation of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. The aim of this networking organization is to facilitate processes of gender equality and equity, women's empowerment and social change. To achieve this objective, the nine-headed staff of TGNP is engaged in training and advocacy, and in the generation and dissemination of information. The organization provides a documentation unit on gender - housing more than 2000 titles - and has developed a database of individuals and organizations in the field of gender resource and information needs. In 1998, a gender resource centre will be realized. Languages: English and Swahili.

Objectives: To promote the interest of Home Economics as a profession. Achievements: It has developed membership down to the grass roots level. It has mobilized funds for up grading home economics teachers. It has provided opportunity for student exchanges between Tanzania and Canada. It has helped in the upgrading of Home Economics Curricula at all levels. Has carried out gender sensitization courses for members. Has participated and contributed fully to major international conferences such as the Cairo on Population, the Beijing on Women, the Rome on Food Security etc. etc. Documentation: Has a small library. WRDP is a non-governmental organization, which was established in order to increase women's visibility through research into and documentation on women's and gender concerns. The 40 members are women professionals from a range of disciplines, such as education, law, reseach, documentation, administration, linguistics, statistics and journalism. WRDP not only promotes research and documentation by means of publishing, organizing conferences, lobbying and networking, but also undertakes grassroot advocacy and offers its members space for capacity building in research and documentation skills. It has a well established documentation centre with books mainly English and Swahili.
