The Women's Studies Institute offers a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (B.I.S.) with a concentration in Women's Studies, a Women's Studies minor, and an M.A. in Women's Studies. Our affiliated faculty include members of the departments of African-American Studies, Anthropology/Geography, Communication, English, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, the schools of Educational Policy Studies and Nursing. Our program encourages community activism, and many of our students are activists. One of our graduate students recently won a national award for her work with health issues in the Latina community. Our graduate core courses emphasize international feminisms and women's movements.

The organization manages a battered women's and childrens shelter designed to accommodate the spiritual, dietary and social needs of women of the Islamic Faith. All women are accepted who are in need. The shelter offers an Emergency Stay up to 21 days and transitional housing from day 22-90. Referrals for health services (including psychiatric), job, job training, career placement, 24/7 daycare on the premises, state certified and accepts State subsidized childcare. In-house professional counseling with three support groups per week. Prevention program of education, events and forums held quarterly. Funded via private grants, individual donations and entrepreneur projects.

Citizens for Midwifery is a non-profit, volunteer, grassroots organization, the only national consumer-based group promoting the Midwifery Model of Care. CfM works to change those factors which restrict the availability of the Midwifery Model of Care, particularly in the U.S., by providing public education about midwifery, the Midwifery Model of Care and related childbirth issues, and by encouraging and supporting effective grassroots action.
