A.A.U.W. has been promoting education and equity for women and girls since it was founded in 1881. A.A.U.W. members are leaders on gender equity in the classroom; on pay equity, on sexual harassment, on family and medical leave and other work and family issues; in fighting sex discrimination in education; on reproductive rights and civil rights in general. In recent years the A.A.U.W. foundation has awarded over two million dollars annually in fellowships, research grants, and community action grants to eligible women. The service is free and confidential. It offers a professional to talk with who, when necessary, will provide a referral to a counselor in the community. Services offered include. job concerns, marital problems, family problems, substance abuse, communication, stress, retirement, financial, career, legal, and others. The EAP is the one office on campus where faculty and staff who believe that they have been sexually harassed or discriminated against can receive confidential counseling without a formal investigation necessarily being initiated.

Services include pregnancy testing, contraceptives, routine gynecological care, and STD testing and treatment. During the semester, all full time students pay a health fee which covers unlimited primary care visits to the Center for Health and Wellbeing. Charges may be filed alleging discrimination, depending on where discrimination occurs, due to: sex, sexual orientation, race, color, national origin, religion, age, physical or mental disability, receipt of public assistance, or having minor children.
